ode to the green city market

i felt that i had to start this blog with the green city market… the pinnacle of all farmers markets (at least based on my experience). given that my goal is to attend every farmers market in chicago, i’ve spent a disproportionate amount of time at green city. but what better than to bike down to lincoln park on a saturday, eat lunch and pick up fresh produce for the week?

so, if you want the best of what chicago has to offer, this is the market. below are some of my favs at green city so far this year. i haven’t even scratched the surface of all there is to offer.

– bennison’s bakery: http://www.bennisonscakes.com/ – fantastic bread and baked goods. i noticed on their website that they also have parisienne macarons… while i haven’t seen macarons at their stand at the green city market (or perhaps they’re sold out by the time i get there at 11?), it may be time for a trip to evanston!

– pasta puttana: http://pastaputtana.com/ – homemade pasta… get there early though, it sells out quickly!

– nichols farm: a hit for the freshest, in-season produce.

– sunday dinner: they serve grilled flatbreads currently with caramelized onions, spring onions, wild mushrooms and goat cheese (all ingredients local). from what i hear, they change the toppings as produce comes into season. great for lunch! i also had a rhubarb spritzer which was interesting albeit a little strange.
